Fees & Pricing
Legal fees in Singapore, written down before we start.
You should know what a matter costs before you commit to it. We work on flat fees, capped phases, and a stage-based model, with a written cap on contested fees and no hidden costs. The first conversation is a free 10-minute Discovery Session.
How we charge
Four ways we price a matter.
Which one fits depends on the matter. We tell you which it is at the Discovery Session, then put the figures in writing. No matter the model, the price is agreed before any chargeable work begins.
One price, agreed up front
Flat-fee (fixed) matters
Most uncontested and document-driven work is quoted as one fixed price agreed before we start. Simplified-track divorce, wills, probate, letters of demand, and conveyancing-style filings sit here. You pay the figure on the engagement letter, not a meter.
A written ceiling per phase
Capped phase pricing
Where a matter could go long, we cap each phase in writing. The negotiation phase has its own ceiling, the hearing phase has another. If a phase settles early you pay less; you never pay more than the cap without signing off on a new one first.
Worst case, known in advance
Written cap on contested fees
Contested divorce, custody fights, and civil litigation are unpredictable by nature, so we put a written maximum on our fees for the contested stage before you commit. You go in knowing the worst case, not guessing at it.
Pay stage by stage
Stage-based flat-fee model
The default. We break the matter into clear stages, attach a flat fee to each, and you only move to the next stage when you choose to. Stop after negotiation if it settles; carry on to trial only if you need to.
The stage-based model
Pay one stage at a time.
This is our default. Each stage carries its own flat fee, and you decide whether to go on to the next. Many matters settle before trial, so many clients never reach the final stage. The ladder below shows the structure; your figures come in the engagement letter.
- 01
Discovery Session
Free · 10 minutes
A short, no-obligation chat to understand the matter and tell you which fee model fits. No charge, no commitment.
- 02
Documents & filing
Fixed fee
Drafting, filing, and the procedural paperwork to open your matter. Quoted as a single figure in the engagement letter.
- 03
Negotiation & mediation
Fixed or capped
Working toward settlement. Priced as a flat fee or, for harder matters, a phase with a written cap. Many matters end here.
- 04
Hearing or trial
Capped, agreed in writing
Only if the matter stays contested. The contested stage carries a written maximum you approve before we proceed.
No hidden costs
What the quote includes.
The figure you agree is the figure you pay. Disbursements like court fees are real third-party costs, so we list them separately and pass them through at cost.
- A written engagement letter stating the fee model and figures before any chargeable work begins
- Court filing fees and third-party disbursements itemised separately, never marked up quietly
- No charge for the 10-minute Discovery Session, and no charge for short status updates over WhatsApp
- Written notice and your sign-off before any fee moves beyond an agreed cap
What we focus on
The work we take on.
Our pricing is built around the kind of matters we run most. Three areas in particular:
- Client access
- A real person reachable when you need one. Evening availability on weekdays, WhatsApp answered until 10pm, and weekend telephone consultations by appointment.
- High-conflict & cross-border
- Contested divorce and custody, disputes with an overseas party, and matters that touch more than one jurisdiction, where a written fee cap matters most.
- Therapeutic justice & complex appeals
- Family matters run in the therapeutic-justice spirit of the Family Justice Courts, plus appeals and post-decision applications that need careful, staged handling.
Reaching us
We answer when most firms have closed.
Legal worry does not keep office hours. You can reach a person in the evening, get a WhatsApp reply late, and book a telephone consultation over the weekend. Short status updates over WhatsApp are not charged.

Common questions
Pricing, answered.
- How does A.W. Law charge for legal work in Singapore?
- A.W. Law LLC uses four arrangements: a fixed flat fee for document-driven matters, capped pricing for each phase of longer matters, a written cap on fees for contested stages, and a stage-based flat-fee model where you pay one stage at a time. The fee model and figures are stated in a written engagement letter before any chargeable work starts.
- Is the first consultation free?
- Yes. The first meeting is a free 10-minute Discovery Session, named to your matter (for example a Divorce Discovery Session or Debt Recovery Discovery Session). There is no charge and no obligation to proceed.
- Can legal fees be capped for a contested divorce or litigation?
- Yes. For contested divorce, custody, and civil litigation, A.W. Law puts a written maximum on its fees for the contested stage before you commit, so you know the worst case in advance. Fees only move beyond an agreed cap with your written sign-off.
- Are there hidden costs or surprise bills?
- No. Court filing fees and third-party disbursements are itemised separately and never marked up. You receive a written engagement letter stating the fee model and figures before any chargeable work begins, and written notice before any fee passes an agreed cap.
- What languages can I discuss my matter in?
- A.W. Law handles matters in English, Malay, Mandarin, Tamil, and Vietnamese, with translation staff on hand for each. Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi are available on request. Tell us your preferred language when you book.
